About Amsterdam
The city of Amsterdam is the biggest city in the Netherlands, famous for its canals, charming architecture and many bikes! In Amsterdam you can enjoy a multicultural environment, great museums, many beautiful sites, and get lost in the many nice streets.
Recommended activities and places:
- Canal boat cruise
- Free walking tour
- Rijksmuseum
- Van Gogh Museum
- Visit a market (e.g the Albert Cuyp market in ‘the Pijp’ or flower market)
In February, the temperature is around 0-60C, and it rarely snows. In this period of the year, the weather tends to be frequently cloudy and rainy, so take your raincoat and/or umbrella.
The best way to move around in Amsterdam is by bike. You can rent bikes around the city, and get ready to pedal. You just need to be careful, since the flux of bikes can be high and there are some unwritten traffic rules. You can also easily move around by public transport, using buses, trams, trains and metro. You can buy an ov-chipkaart at the machines in train/metro stations to pay for the tickets or simply use your debit/credit card. Digital debit/credit cards in the cell phone also works. Don’t forget to check-in and check-out! You should hold your card against the card reader when you enter the transport, but also when you reach your destination. You’ll hear a beep and see confirmation on the screen when you’ve successfully checked in and out.
